DOP61 Ethnic disparities in the management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Israel and impact on outcomes

Abstract Background In this nationwide study, we aimed to explore health services utilization, medical management, and disease outcomes of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) between Jews Arabs, the two major ethnic groups in Israel. Methods We utilized a cohort including all patients diagnosed with IBD Israel since 2005. The primary outcome was steroid-dependency, secondary use biologics, time surgery, IBD-related admissions. Outcomes were controlled for possible inherent differences course phenotype. Results Of 32,491 included patients, 18,252 (56%) had Crohn’s (CD) 14,239 (44%) ulcerative colitis (UC); 10% Arabs 90% Jews. Jewish ethnicity associated lower rates steroid-dependency compared Arab both CD )HR=0.7 [95%CI 0.6-0.8]) UC (HR=0.7 0.6-0.8]). addition, increased biologics during first year from diagnosis (HR=1.3 1.1-1.6]) but not UC. risk surgery at 3 5 years higher group points (13% vs 10%, 16% 14%, respectively, p=0.005). number hospitalizations than (19% vs. 28% or more years, p<0.001). Conclusion is rate hospitalizations, surgeries on one hand, utilization other. results should be considered by policy makers improve access care across populations.
